Money By Da Pound Records
CEO Jesse Jay Johnson born and raised in the inner cities of Memphis, Tennessee had a vision to create Money By Da Pound Records. Jay is the youngest of four Boys. At the age of 12 he lost both his parent in the same year. These events forced Jay to grow up faster than the average child in the streets of Memphis, Tennessee. After years in the game he decided it was time to try some new ways to make a living. At the age of 25, Street savvy Jay moved to California to work with his family in filming and production. This turned out to be the opportunity of a lifetime and the one he had been longing for. Jay had a vision to start a record label in Memphis. The label would blend the old with the new, and focus on GOOD music.
At the age of 29 back in Memphis Jay met his beautiful wife (Starr) and loving Mamma & best friend (Katrina Walker). Jay and Mamma always talked about opening a business and one night Jay spoke about a record label.
Mamma asked, “Why don’t we start one? But what would we name it?” Jay Said, “Money By Da Pound.” A name phrase which Jay used while he was in California years ago. Mamma loved that name and put all her trust and faith in Jay and His vision and said, “Let’s do it”.

In 2004 Jay, Starr, and Mamma set out to build a label like no other by starting Money By da Pound records. With all of Jay’s focus on music he began networking with some of the music industry heavyweights like Multi-platinum and Grammy nominated producer Carlos Broady, Johnny Cabell of Hit Afta Hit Ent., DJ Scream, DJ 007, DJ Freddy Hydro, DJ Lil’ Larry of the affiliates, and numerous other artists in the industry. In 2006 he sought a partnership with Bungalow/Universal records for distributing the label roster.
In 2008 Mamma (Katrina Walker) and a New Yorker named Skeete got married. Skeete was asked to be the COO of the company to complete the last piece of Money By Da Pound Records. With Skeete, the team Jay needed was fully set in place. Jay‘s first vision was brought to reality. Now the second vision is too not only bringing good music to the radios and ears of America, but to make Money By Da Pound Records a household name.
